Apex Wedges
Ben Hogan
Hogan has recently released its new set of Apex wedges - the 5208 Gap Wedge, the 5612 Sand Wedge and the 6006 Lob Wedge. (Note than Ben Hogan is now a part of Callaway Golf.)
These new wedges, designed for the lower handicapper, are made of forged 1020 carbon steel for optimal feel & performance with both shot making and playability in mind. Alongside of the obvious benefits of the forged carbon steel, these wedges also have the maximum groove depth allowed under the current rules of golf.
As far as performance is concerned we took out these wedges for a few rounds and report mixed results. The higher handicappers really enjoyed the soft feel of the gap and sand wedges, but had little luck with the lob wedge at only 6 degrees of bounce.
Our lower handicappers found the performance of all three to be fair, however, the offset of these wedges, although very slight, is a turn off when standing over the ball.
Overall? For the MSRP of $146 CDN, we'll stick to our Cleveland's.
