Roseland Golf Course
Windsor, Ontario
This public facility, designed by Donald Ross, is said to be one of the most played golf courses in Ontario. This being said, the course is typically in pretty good shape with the exceptions being on those weekends when tournaments are being pushed through.
Although a relatively short course, even from the back tees, Roseland does provide a challenge for the average player due to its wide variety of turtleback greens. A characteristic of Donald Ross courses, these greens require precise ball placement to have any hope of scoring low.
The front 9 is there for the taking, while the back 9 provides a little more challenge, with the final two holes reaching upwards of 430 yards. Tight fairways make for some interesting drives, and, being that this is a public course....heads up on adjacent fairways.
Overall Roseland is a challenging course for the mid-handicapper, and provides excellent value with green fees at less than $50 per round. The only drawbacks are the tremendous wait times, plan for a 5-6 hour round, and the staff; this public facility unfortunately falls into the category of "Employees would rather be elsewhere."
